9/7/2022 Update
Dear Ventura College Community,
Ventura College is OPEN for classes and services TODAY (September 7, 2022)
Yesterday at approximately 6:00 pm students and employees at Ventura College Main Campus were sent an automatic alert on their computers regarding a potential threat of an active shooter on campus and were instructed to shelter in place. Ventura College Police and Ventura Police Department responded quickly to investigate. They determined that the threat was not credible, and the investigation found that the emergency alert system was mistakenly triggered by a Ventura College employee via their mobile device from an off-campus location. We are grateful for the swift reaction to this event and commend all the emergency personnel that responded.
Ventura College recognizes that this event may have negatively impacted many members of our community. We highly encourage our students who have been adversely affected to visit our College Student Health Center and for employees to reach out to the Employee Assistance Program by calling (800) 854-1446 or visiting unum.com/lifebalance. The campus is currently arranging for mental health professionals to be on campus to assist us in processing this incident. More information will be shared as details are confirmed.
At this time, the college is back to full operation and classes have returned to their regular schedule.
In keeping with our standard college and district protocol, this event is under investigation and a review of the incident will be performed after that process has been completed. The campus will be resending information regarding training on campus for emergency alerts.
